How to dance in one square metre

In this workshop demonstration, Birgit Zirkelbach and Bernhard Gehberger prove that it's possible to have interesting and safe choreography at a very crowded milonga. Watch how the students around them move in to shrink the circle, and how it doesn't faze the dancers one bit. This type of practice is very good training for tango festivals!

How do you know they are dancing to choreography ? To me it looks all improvising.

  2. I didn't mean to imply that they are dancing to a pre-rehearsed choreography. By "choreography" I meant the steps they are dancing. I'm sure it's improvised. Sorry for the confusion.

  3. Hi,

glad you like our small improvised workshop demo! I am convinced that it comes in very handy at various situations like a typical traditional milonga in BsAs, a crowded festival milonga or a tango marathon.

Even if you prefer a more open style normally, the capability to dance on small space will enable you to dance in many situations where other people have to stop and will be annoyed.

And a very positiv side effect is that you are in full controll of what you are doing not risking to hurt others, which will enable everybody to enjoy their dances even when it's very crowded.

    best greetings from Vienna/Austria,
    Bernhard

  4. Hi Bernhard,

thanks for providing this demo on the internet so I could share it here! I agree that having the discipline to dance in a small space is vital for social dancing, and I loved this demonstration. I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
